JPO Publishes Revised Edition Of "Examination Guidelines for Trademarks"

Recent changes in the Japanese Trademark Act required a new edition of the "Examination Guidelines for Trademarks" which was now published by the Japanese Patent Office (JPO). Mainly, the new edited guidelines regard regionally based collective trademarks (revision of the Trademark Act on April 1, 2006) and the introduction of service marks for retail or wholesale services (revision of the Trademark Act on April 1, 2007). Especially the latter changes to chapter XVIII, dealing with trademark applications for retail services, are expected to be of practical relevance.
