Increase of IPR Caseload in China

Since China joined the World Trade Organization, the number of cases dealing with Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) involving foreign firms has increased at about 50 percent according to new statistic data announced by the Supreme People's Court.
From 2002 to 2006, China's courts settled 931 civil cases affecting IPR violations at first instance trials reflecting an average annual increase of 48 percent. Last year, the courts settled 353 civil cases of IPR violations at first instance trials, an increase of 52 percent compared with the caseload of 2005.
